7/28/22: Monster Under the Bed
The monster hides underneath your bed because it has believes in fulfilling one’s duties.
The monster hides underneath your bed because it’s seen how lonely you’ve been recently. It knows that the new job has been hard, that you haven’t made friends there the way you had hoped. That the job has not been more than just a job.
The monster hides underneath your bed because it was lonely once, too, before it found its purpose.
The monster that hides underneath your bed believes that we can feel the presence of others, even when we can’t see them. It feels this way about its grandparents, who passed last autumn, within hours of each other. It feels their presence still.
The monster that hides underneath your bed wants you to get better. It hopes that when you lie awake at night, your brain chemistry having had the wind knocked out of it by the ennui of the day, that you can feel its well-wishes radiating into you. It hopes that you not being alone will help you fall asleep faster.
The monster that hides underneath your bed has been tidying your room, here and there, when it thinks you won’t notice. It swapped out your toothbrush for a new one, because it believes that the accumulation of small positive things throughout the day can add up to something bigger.
The monster that hides underneath your bed has been doing yoga while you sleep. Lurking is bad for the back. Its New Year’s Resolution is to develop better posture.
The monster that hides underneath your be cares for you deeply and believes you are worthy of love.
The monster believes in you, even if you don’t believe in it.
